New mobile phones

I just picked up a new Sony Ericsson W810i w810ifor a client of mine, and I have to say that the phone ROCKS!!!. It looks cool and it has a 2 mega pixel camera and flash (which actually is more of a bright light).

We originally tried the Samsung d807, samsung d807but that phone was truly disappointing, the microphone mainly picked up background noise, it could not sync with a mac, and it would not vibrate and ring at the same time. They must have rushed that phone out to market before finishing the software.

I think their is a big problem in the mobile communication industry is that they think it is acceptable to release products that are effectively “broken” because the software they ship with is incomplete, or poorly tested.

Right out of the box the w810i was impressive. It came with wired stereo headphones that had a mic built in to the cord, a usb cord that doubles as a charger, and a 128mb duo card. The screen is nice and bright and the navigation is clean, although the 5 way navigation button is a little tight.

As a Treo 650 user for almost 2 years, I thought that if you wanted to use bluetooth you had to the bluetooth ritual (which usually involved sacrificing a fuzzy bunny to the scsi bus). I was shocked to find out how well bluetooth was implemented on the w810i. Almost every bluetooth feature worked with out any special configuration. Within 2 minutes of pairing the powerbook and the phone I was able to remote control the computer from the navigation pad on the phone. I still can’t do that with my treo 650.
