The New York Times does not get it!!!
Posted by joeNYC at July 27th, 2011
Or at least the company that does there advertising is stuck in 2002. While riding home on the subway last night I took an in depth look at the subway car full of New York Times ads. They were promoting there “Digital Subscriber” model, where as a non-subscriber you only get access to 20 articles a month and as a subscriber you get to see all the articles.

Lets face it, if you are reading 20 New York times articles a month you would be bored to tears. The quality of the writing might be high, but I find much more compelling articles on cNet, Lifehacker, and ARS Techinca.
The point that I am trying to make is that somehow the New York Times is stuck in the old way of thinking, and that just does not cut it in the real world these days.
Check out these examples from the ad on the subway:

Are they trying to represent an interactive timeline on with a line, maybe they should have thought that one through, I think they are just making fun…

What the heck is a popcast? I hope that is a typo (sorry about the blurry picture)

I do not know why they insist on using http://www, it is not necessary, unless you are still using lynks or netscape.

Most commonly used Iphone passcode lock codes
Posted by joeNYC at June 21st, 2011
I am just posting some information that was already spelled out in Daniel Amitay’s bloghere.
I want to reiterate that just having a passcode lock your phone regardless if its an iphone or an android, is not enough if you use the following passcodes:
1234
0000
2580
1111
5555
5683
0853
2222
1212
1998
These are known as the most common lock codes and they will most certainly be the first codes someone will try to use if your phone ends up in the wrong hands. The reason why 10 is an important number is that some phone can be set to erase the personal data after 10 unsuccessful attempts.

On a walk through the almost freshly completed Washington Square park I passed the end of a performance piece by artist Ujin Lee.
I found it interesting how she used audience participation as a part of the performance. As good at paraphrasing as I am you can read about what performance/piece was about here.
Here is a small photo of what was displayed during the performance.

iPhone caches all location data!!!
Posted by joeNYC at April 22nd, 2011
I just downloaded the iPhone tracker app (for OSX) from here.
Its really amazing what can be gleaned from this kind of data….
Here is what mine looks like:

I wonder what that kind of data from millions of people is worth?

The must have been filming for some movie that was set in the 1950′s cause everywhere there was old classic cars…
Let it be known that I still hate when you can’t walk down the street when they are filming some stupid movie..
